So Tweet!

Oooh here I am again, riding high on all those lovely comments (thank you, thank you) and eager to show you what I got up to earlier this week.  

So Tuesday by 5pm, I had to present myself to this rather gorgeous shop on the infamous King's Road.  I remember this shop from the days when it housed an assortment of antiques dealers, just shows how long it is since I've been over that way.  Now it is home to the much lauded American store Anthropologie with its eclectic and rather covetable selection of clothes and home wares, many with a handcrafted look.  Sadly, they do tend to come with a price tag so in the past, it's largely been window shopping for me in their Regent Street store.

It's enjoyable just to browse and they often have some very interesting displays.

Most interestingly, the crafty magazine Selvedge has opened up a pop-up shop there.  Oh deary me, too too divine!  Isn't it the most beautiful shop front (I go quite weak at the knees at the sight of this sort of thing).

Inside, it was very swoon worthy (sorry the pics aren't great: combination of poor light and some taken on mobile phone when the camera "had a moment").

Goodness me, I feel quite light headed after seeing all that again.  It was quite overwhelming in the flesh!  As you can tell from the notes alongside the photos above, Selvedge really do work hard to promote crafty workmanship and their pop-up shop has been accompanied by a series of workshops with the artists they have featured in their magazine.

So, back to the matter in hand, I was there to take part in a crafty workshop being being run by the very talented Abigail Brown whose work I have admired and even purchased at the last Selvedge Fair.  Abigail is known for hand making beautiful textile versions of birds in stunning colours with little snippets of Liberty Tana Lawn added here and there.  She was featured in Selvedge magazine and also in Homes & Antiques.  A shifty at her website will show you what I am talking about.  We were invited to make one of her Matchbox Tweeters.  Exciting!

It was work on a small scale, quite fiddly, especially when there were so many people that you had to sew standing up! The workshop was free after all and Abigail was delightful.

I came home with my tweeter still to finish off which was fine as I have lots of supplies here in the Den.  She is very cute indeed, in her little matchbox home.  (If a devil to photograph in the gloom!)

It couldn't stop there, could it?  I decided to allow myself a little crafty session this morning; a little stitching in bed and then a bit of paper craft when I realised I would have to make a matchbox (all of ours are huge, no good for a little tweeter at all).  My supervisor kept a furry-clad eye on me!

I thought you also might like to see some pics of the birds I have which were made by Abigail.  Aren't they cute?  So clever, too.

Abigail told me that she has started running her own workshops in her studio to make one of these birds.  Guess what I'm doing in a few weeks time?  I think there are still some places left, (check Abigail's blog.  You can also see her record of Tuesday's event and you may spot me if you are eagle eyed!)
