So Tuesday by 5pm, I had to present myself to this rather gorgeous shop on the infamous King's Road. I remember this shop from the days when it housed an assortment of antiques dealers, just shows how long it is since I've been over that way. Now it is home to the much lauded American store Anthropologie with its eclectic and rather covetable selection of clothes and home wares, many with a handcrafted look. Sadly, they do tend to come with a price tag so in the past, it's largely been window shopping for me in their Regent Street store.
It's enjoyable just to browse and they often have some very interesting displays.
Most interestingly, the crafty magazine Selvedge has opened up a pop-up shop there. Oh deary me, too too divine! Isn't it the most beautiful shop front (I go quite weak at the knees at the sight of this sort of thing).
Inside, it was very swoon worthy (sorry the pics aren't great: combination of poor light and some taken on mobile phone when the camera "had a moment").
(Dolls by Apolline, creatures in cabinet by Julie Arkell, scarves by Sophie Diguard.)
(Giant moth by Mister Finch)
(Dolls by Jess Brown)
(Original vintage hankies. Pin cushions and needle cases by Ellie Evans)
(Soooo wanted one of these beautiful necklaces by Sophie Diguard)
Goodness me, I feel quite light headed after seeing all that again. It was quite overwhelming in the flesh! As you can tell from the notes alongside the photos above, Selvedge really do work hard to promote crafty workmanship and their pop-up shop has been accompanied by a series of workshops with the artists they have featured in their magazine.
So, back to the matter in hand, I was there to take part in a crafty workshop being being run by the very talented Abigail Brown whose work I have admired and even purchased at the last Selvedge Fair. Abigail is known for hand making beautiful textile versions of birds in stunning colours with little snippets of Liberty Tana Lawn added here and there. She was featured in Selvedge magazine and also in Homes & Antiques. A shifty at her website will show you what I am talking about. We were invited to make one of her Matchbox Tweeters. Exciting!
It was work on a small scale, quite fiddly, especially when there were so many people that you had to sew standing up! The workshop was free after all and Abigail was delightful.
It couldn't stop there, could it? I decided to allow myself a little crafty session this morning; a little stitching in bed and then a bit of paper craft when I realised I would have to make a matchbox (all of ours are huge, no good for a little tweeter at all). My supervisor kept a furry-clad eye on me!
Lady Pink has a friend!
I thought you also might like to see some pics of the birds I have which were made by Abigail. Aren't they cute? So clever, too.
Abigail told me that she has started running her own workshops in her studio to make one of these birds. Guess what I'm doing in a few weeks time? I think there are still some places left, (check Abigail's blog. You can also see her record of Tuesday's event and you may spot me if you are eagle eyed!)
And, because I thought it would be a good way to thank you for all those lovely comments and well, now you've got the hang of commenting, I thought someone out there might like to re-home Lord Blue?
Just leave a comment below and he will fly anywhere in the world. I'll draw on Monday, just a little weekend giveaway.
I hope you all have a super weekend, lovely readers. Think of me kindly please, taking three loony ten-eleven year olds to Legoland in forecasted heavy rain, with associated sleepovers. Corkscrew at the ready!

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED, THANK YOU

What a stunning shop, I would spend hours in there nosing. I want one of Mr Finch's moths, I keep checking his Etsy shop hoping that he will list some. I love your little birds in match boxes and would love to enter your giveaway please. Good luck in Lego land, I hope it doesn't rain too much. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteJo xx
Hen these are just gorgeous - I have bought a couple of little mice in 'matchboxes' for my two little sweetie granddaughters - I just love them and so do they. However these little birdies are just divine - given me lots of ideas - oh how I wish I could turn all these ideas in my head into actual things.....You have cheered me up this morning, a cold grey day here but now filled with sunshine from your sunny pictures. Have a wonderful weekend, am sure you will have a whale of a time, all of you.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks and love
Dorothy :) xx
I love Anthropologie too! And Legoland sounds like fun (well....maybe not the rain part!) Love your little birds...can I enter the giveaway, too?

ReplyDeleteI've never been to Anthropologie, looks gorgeous.
I would love to re-home Lord blue :-D Think he would look quite lovely perched on our kitchen chalkboard :-D
ReplyDeleteHave the gin to hand! Hope the rain holds off- dark skies in that direction today...Anthropologie is one of my online browse places, very delicious. Sophie Diguard scarves, perhaps one day, saw some yesterday at stitch and knit, was so very tempted.
ReplyDeleteThe shop looks a real treat to take your time browsing round. So many lovely handcrafted things too! It really makes the creative mind whirr.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely birds you have there so cute and love the colours too.
Good luck with the weekend! Yikes you are brave.

Lovely little birds, Hen. My memories of the King's road are from the 70's so that dates me!
ReplyDeleteSuch loveliness! Those little hatchlings are adorable. Abigail brown's birds are gorgeous. We are all bird fanatics in our family. How exciting to be doing a workshop with her. I'll look forward to reading your post about it and seeing what you make.

my Husband bought his wedding suit from Johnsons in the Kings road in 1985,I remember my Dad saying that he should have saved his money as he could have borrowed his De-mob suit, as they were the same style !Your supervisor did a sterling job, I have everything crossed hoping Lord Blue will be winging his way this way :)

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I'd love to give a home to Lord Blue, he's absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYour birds are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the price tags in anthropologie- I love the store but it is a treat to get anything from there!
I was in England for a tour in 2011 and would go back in a heartbeat. Loved the pics of the shops and Lord Blue. Sign me up for your giveaway please.

Hello Hen! A blue giveaway- please count me in! I have been meaning to comment on you earlier post about lack of comments, I'm really sorry that I don't comment more, I'm a terrible lurker. I think a lot of it is because I follow blogs, such as your own, written by people I admire and I think that why I could say in response would not be interesting at all! Also I don't want to look like a crazed stalker given that I bump into you from time to time! I think I'm trying to say my lack of comments is actually a compliment. Whatever you write I always read and enjoy and am always excited to see a new post. Love Rachael The Blue Lady xx
ReplyDeleteLoving living London through your eyes.
ReplyDeleteBlue was my Grandmas favourite colour so I'd love to give Lord blue a home.
Tweet x
Sooo cute! Lord Blue is welcome to perch at my house.. Enjoy lego land.................... :) regards Sue
ReplyDeleteHi there, such a lovely cheery blog, I am always reading it and looking at the new things you get up to. I love, love, love your little bolt hole cottage - marvelous!
ReplyDeletePlease include my name in the draw for the little bird on Monday, he is so cute and I have just the place for him to live ! a lovely old white cage - of course I will leave the door open for him to come and go and his matchbox in the bottom for him to sleep in - Barbara
WONDERFUL! Thanks for sharing the pics
ReplyDeleteOh bother, I just wrote quite a long comment, clicked post and my broadband went doolally! Love all the pics you've shared today. I'm thinking for the sake of my purse it's a good job I don't still work on the corner of Kings Rd/Sydney Street, just a short skip from Anthropologie. The pop of shop looks fab and I totally agree with you about the window. Heart skipping! I would love to win your little bird. So sweet. Hope you survive the weekend. With two tiny boys I've got all that sort of thing to come! Fiona x
ReplyDeleteI love that your Anthropologie has a pop up shop. They do go to a great extent to find unique items from craftsmen around the world. It makes perfect sense to feature local ones as well. I can say their prices hold me back and I do make small purchases, but I love to go there for inspiration. I often go home brimming with ideas of things I can make on my own. Those little birdies are adorable. I'd love to give Mr.Blue an American home ;) I can't wait to see what you make in the next class! Hugs - Pam.
ReplyDeleteAnthropologie looks amazing. I must visit next time we're in London. Good luck with legoland in the rain -just maybe the sun will come out especially for you. Sue x
ReplyDeletePS Love the daffs.
I'd love to win the little bird xx Good luck for Legoland!!!
ReplyDeleteI would have bankrupted myself in that shop! I got all nostalgic thinking about the Kings Road - I had a saturday job there when I was a teenager. I worked in a very posh perfume and cosmetics shop and got spoilt by staff discount!
ReplyDeleteLoving the birds but then Liberty is involved so why wouldn't I?
I don't envy you your forthcoming trip to Legoland - I well remember a visit there in a deluge having to wear stylish plastic yellow kagouls or drown. I'd definitely have the corkscrew at the ready - might even be tempted to take it with me!
I do love Anthropologie, too! I am always at the sale section, and even then it is too much! But, they have great dishes and things! Love your sweet birds!! So adorable! Would love a chance to win your sweet bird! Happy day to you! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteWow, your pics are all swoonworthy as usual!! I just love these little birds, I remember the article in Homes and Antiques (currently my fave mag) so I would love to be entered in the giveaway,
ReplyDeleteGood luck for Legoland, that's something I don't envy, lol!!
S x
Oh My~ I would absolutely be over the moon if that sweet little tweet were to fly across the pond to live with me ! He would be in good company with the other birdies in my little pink studio.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love seeing the shops you visit. There is absolutely nothing even close to being as lovely here.
Little trip down memory lane for me! Lovely pics, and cute birdies! Have fun at Legoland, you really are a brave soul!
ReplyDeleteJulie x
Such fun! I want to tag along with you on your discoveries. :-) we have an Anthropologies close to us but I find the prices too high for me to shop there. The shop Selvedges looks like I could lose myself there for hours. Your little matchboxes are darling. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Hi follow ur link off of instagram and I am bowled ova how lovely ur blog is and will b reading alot more often thank u n eeeeep!!!!!!! Fingers crossed guys xxxx
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - these pictures of the wonderful shop. I would soooo love to come over to London and have a look myself! The Selvedge shop is super, too! I have had a subscription to their magazine a few years ago. I still have them, to sit and read on a Sundaymorning. And to top it all, the sweet birds you made... please include me for the give away! My three furry friends will be kept at great distance....
ReplyDeleteLovely birds Hen. They are so teeny and delicate, something I couldn't do with my big hands.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to what you do at Abigail's workshop :-)
What a great blog! So many pictures of wonderful things to see. The birds and the daffodils give me spring fever. I bought and planted a bunch of primroses yesterday and filled the brick planter that circles my front porch... lovely. I noticed the slugs are enjoying them, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to share your world with us.
Janet
Already a big fan of your pretty work I would love to give this little chap a home here in Denmark!
ReplyDeleteChristine.francke@gmail.com
thanks for the window shopping - delightful, and for the chance to win a wee sweetie. Have fun at Legoland :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable little tweeters! They are so sweet. I love Anthropologie, I only wish their clothing was made for anyone bigger than toothpick-size. :) How nice to have that pop-up shop inside; I see those a lot on my UK blogs, I hope they start doing that kind of thing over here too.
ReplyDeleteIs the corkscrew for getting them off the rides? or into their sleeping bags? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteVery exciting that due purely to guilt (and a helpful hubby) I now know how to comment - at least, I hope!!!
would love a little lord blue to nest here xx Kate
Just a note to let you know that I enjoy reading
ReplyDeleteall of your posts. I would love to give your little blue bird a home! I am from southeast
Missouri. The bluebird is our state bird, and
I am sure that he would be quite happy here!
Thank you so much for the chance to win!
wigglypup2(at)yahoo(dot)com
ooh I would love to enter please. Your birdies are lovely. Good luck at LEGOLAND
ReplyDeleteSue x
So drooling over the lovely photos. I would love to visit Anthropologie and that Selvedge pop up shop is far too purse unfriendly :) I would be unable to visit without spending a fair amount. Loving the little birds. I fancy making a few of those for Easter pressies, instead of 'bad for your teeth' chocolate. I would definitely love to win Lord Blue.
ReplyDeleteWould love to do the workshop as well, but having to be very strict with myself at the moment, budgetwise. I wonder how much I could get for a hyperactive 8 year old and a moody teenager?
Oh My Gosh Hen!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures of Anthropolgy and Selvedge are amazing. I wish we had either one of those stores in our neighborhood! I would so be there taking photos too and getting ideas. Lovely! Thanks for sharing them. Good luck with your trip with the ten-eleven year olds. :) And for the dear blue bird, I would be honored to win it. ;)
Hugs,
Tamara
Hi!!! Great fun pics!!! The little birds are so sweet and adorable!!! Thanks for the fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteooh so pleased to see another post before I leave for my holiday this weekend!! Hen what a fab workshop that was and such a bonus that it was free too. They are such sweet little birdies in their little birdie nests - soooo cute :)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you are going to the Ideal Home Show this year (such a shame that they are moving from Earls Court next year). Just got back home to Sussex from there - great day, but so many people.
As I shall be away for a few weeks it is probably best to leave me out of your lovely and very kind giveaway.
Hope your weekend is enjoyable at legoland and if it does rain the boys will be enjoying themselves too much to let it ruin their day I'm sure :)
Christie xx
Wow those little birds are so cute. I am also digging the floor tiles in the Anthropologie shop they are super cute. I love how your gorgeous furry friends are always close to hand. They must love having their photos taken.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend. xxx
Please add me to the drawing. Lord Blue would love life in Southern California. Thanks too for introducing me to Selvedge. I have added the Selvedge App to my phone. Want you to know how much I enjoy your blog and seeing photos of your corner of the world.
ReplyDeleteHello Hen.. this was a very fun post! I do love the 2 shops your showed us - and the bird workshop, how fun! You really are amazingly talented to make things so fast. Thanks for the giveaway... I will cross my fingers! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteOh good golly, what a gorgeous shop! Such beauty, it would leave me feeling quite lightheaded! I do love Anthropologie, I always make a visit when in London now! x
ReplyDeleteDear, dear, dear, dear Hen - where to begin. I have not popped round for a while so read you bit about not blogging and then backtracked through some of your delicious posts (how can they possibly get better each and every time!) and saw your bit about blogging. Well what can I say but thank you for giving your time so generously to so, so many people - giving lots and lots of pleasurable reading and doing and looking and showing and telling. Perfecto dear. I have noticed across all sorts of blogs that there are some you have thousands and thousands of followers but sometimes only 1-2 comments - don't quite understand it all but rest assured many, many people have gained from reading your lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteCarry on dear
Best wishes
Jenny
My sister and I took my nephew to Legoland a few years ago and we loved it (dear nephew not so keen on it.) It was sooooo much nicer than Disneyland Paris (and less tiring on the legs, too.) Would love to give your sweetly pretty little birdie a new home.
ReplyDeleteI only wish I lived a bit nearer to London so I could join in all these classes not to mention the shopping. Can't think of a better way to spend the weekend than with those lovely boys, haha, please pop me in the hat to win that lovely birdie I have just the place for it, thanks Lucey x

ReplyDeleteHow could I not comment after the lovely email you sent me! Thank you. Your post is a lovely one, I'd love to go to some of the workshops in and around London however, its a bit far to commute from Glasgow! Your birds are lovely, having made tiny mice, I can appreciate the amount of work you have put into these, they are fiddly arent they, but so worth it. Those shops look delicious, wish I could visit them but it's nice to see your pictures. Thanks. x
ReplyDeleteOh how pretty, I would love Lord Blue, he would fit perfectly on my bedside locker as my bedroom is blue too :) You might surprise yourself and really enjoy Legoland. Have a good day anyway..

http://shabbyally.blogspot.co.uk/
I love coming to your blog and seeing all your pretty things. You feel free to send Lord Blue down here to TX and I will make him a fancy cowboy hat.
ReplyDeleteHen, definitely put me into the draw for one of those jolly little birdies in their Liberty home.
ReplyDeleteGosh...I would love to be resting in a Liberty home! Thank you also for the reminder of the many times I visited all the tangled interiors of Antiquarious on Kings Road. I was very sad when I learned that it was closing. I've lots of "treasures" here in my tiny apartment that I bought over the years from various antiques dealers in that crazy quilt market.
Yes, Anthropologie is a lovely company with great taste in what they buy for their many shops and really, really talented visual merchandizing artist who continue to come up with beautiful environments. (I do still think that folks like you with wonderful eyes who venture around to various local fairs will always be able to find authentic retro treasures. The trick might be to get there before the Anthropologie folks do. They'll want to find ways to economically have the authentic items recreated in faraway lands. Alas, this the time we now live in.
Gosh, I would love to see that Selvedge pop up shop. I am a big Selvedge fan, and also wish that I could attend the upcoming Spring Fair. This magazine does seem to be able to encourage current talents to find broader audiences.
Hen...can you tell tht I am rabbiting on here. Your posts often do make me want to go on and on about all sorts of visual matters.
Have a lovely weekend, xo
my 79 year old mum likes to read your blog on her iPad. i send email links to her with each new post and we both love looking at your beautiful projects! she had wanted me to post a little while back when you were feeling sad about lack of responses and i did try, it just never showed up. in any event, you have outed us, two more fans who love to look but never say hello!

Well Hen... the comments post has been interesting indeed. I must say I didn't realise until I read your post and created my own post, just how important they were to me and just how everyone varies on the intricacies of leaving comments, replies, following etc.
ReplyDeleteAnthropologie is my all time favourite store, i adore their style. Abigail's birds are an all time favourite of mine and to my delight they are sold in a shop close to where I live, so I have had the pleasure of touching them and seeing them up close. I so wish I could attend one of her workshops. I think the flamingo is my favourite!
Your creations are adorable and I would love to own one... I'm bird mad, so they would be quite at home here... Love love love the crocus plate in your photo...x

ReplyDeleteLove the first photo with the daffs, so pretty. Bet you were in heaven among all those wonderful displays. The birds are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi Hen
ReplyDeleteHaven't been on the internet for a few days as my Mam (85) fell and broke her wrist so I have been staying with her. I love your blog and have been readind it since you started. I go to you first when I go online, then Nostalgia at the Stonehouse and Attic 24. I love, love love all the different trips you make and the varied posts you make, with the gorgeous pictures. I sometimes comment but would never expect a reply as I know the posts take long enough to produce. Please don't stop you cheer me up and one day we will get to Pickering and I will tap you on the shoulder!
Looks like you had a great time. Anthropologie looks interesting, and some gorgeous bits in the Selvegde pop up shop, love the display of threads.
ReplyDeleteI love Lady Pink and Lord Blue, were they fiddly to make, being so small? They really are sweet.
Beautiful daffs in the first picture.
Love to all

ReplyDeleteI'd love to win I have just started to collect little birds to go somewhere lovely in my home, not sure where to put them yet. My favourite little birdie is a Cornish Chough although he needs to be repaired after my friends little boy bit his beak off (oooowwww!!!). xx
ReplyDeleteI love her birds. My absolute fav is the pink flamingo!!! You are so lucky to have been able to do her workshop!
ReplyDeleteHI Hen,
